The 11th Annual ReelAbilities Film Festival: New York (April 2-9, 2019) is proud to be launching a city-wide campaign for short films celebrating the lives of people with disabilities. The “What’s Your ReelAbility?” competition seeks short, 25 second films sharing stories pertaining to disability.

The ReelAbilities Film Festival is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different abilities. Alongside The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and The Mayor’s Office for People With Disabilities, ReelAbilities’ short film competition is a chance to pay homage to the diversity and inclusivity within NYC.

The contest is open to residents of New York City, will begin accepting submissions of short 25 second films on February 8, and close on March 8 at 11:59 pm. Any style and format of film pertaining to disability is acceptable, and innovation is encouraged – fiction, documentary, a personal story, animation, interviews, video art, etc. The film can cover a broad spectrum of topics, including day-to-day life to stories of inclusion and accessibility, or somehow relating to the theme of disability and filmmaking.

Films must be:

  • Up to 25 seconds long
  • Shot in HD (minimum 1080p) and can be shot on a top quality smartphone
  • Shot in widescreen format
  • Comply with PG rating standards

The winner of “What’s Your ReelAbility?” competition will receive:
