In honor of Deaf Awareness Month, join us for a free virtual community screening of three Deaf-related short films on Thursday, September 30th from 5:30-7:00pm. We will be joined by representatives from the NYC Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) and the filmmakers for a conversation.  

 

This event is free and open to the public. ASL interpreting services, Captions and Audio Description will be provided.

Deaf homeowner Kevin and repairman Doug clash over who's to blame for a broken air conditioner, with tensions boiling over when money enters the conversation. Acting as the middleman, the translator struggles to stay professional-- until Doug's offhand remark pushes her to stop playing nice.

Andrea “Drea” Stoney, a down-on-her-luck poet, finds herself at her grandmother’s repass, along with her seditty larger-than-life family. But Drea is sticking out like a sore thumb; she’s introspective, Queer, artistic and proudly Deaf, albeit surrounded by her distant family members who don’t care to know ASL. So Drea resorts to finding solace in hidden, lonely moments that she can steal in the pockets of her grandmother’s generational brownstone.

Together, they develop ways to share the music's essence, creating a language of movement that transcends traditional communication. Their collaboration celebrates the diverse ways people experience and interpret dance.
