Geneviève Lamoureux is a PhD candidate in speech-language therapy at Université de Montréal and a person who stutters. 'We Are the Audience' is her debut as a co-producer. Grown from her doctoral research on transforming media representation of stuttering, co-created with the stuttering community from the ground up, it brings together people who stutter to question how the world sees them and imagine how they wish to be seen. Co-produced alongside Aidan Sank (SPACE), director Eliza Brownlie, director of photography Domingo Lamarre and executive producer Ingrid Verduyckt, Ph.D. (Labo IV), and featuring a score by composer Luke Wyland (who also stutters), ‘We Are the Audience’ is proof of what becomes possible when a community takes the mic and the camera. Geneviève is also the founder of Voice and Media, a research-creation platform dedicated to transforming media practices around stuttering and communication differences, through training resources, films, and events for media professionals, clinicians, communities with lived experience, and the broader public.
