Bryan Velazquez
Panelist
Setting the Stage, Industry Summit
Hailing from the vibrant neighborhood of Dyckman in Upper Manhattan, Bryan Velazquez originally aspired to be a Braille teacher. However, his journey took an unexpected turn during his time at St. Thomas Aquinas College, where he discovered his passion for therapeutic recreation.
Determined to make a difference, Bryan began working with diverse populations, including individuals with dementia, autism, and mobility challenges. His career took off at Hardstone Palisades in Rockland County, where he implemented innovative programs—ranging from music and discussions to thematic arts and even circus-inspired activities.
His fascination with the circus as a tool for engagement deepened while working at Coney Island Hospital, leading him to volunteer with the Big Apple Circus' "Circus of the Senses"—a program that provides immersive experiences for individuals with disabilities.
Today, as an Outreach Coordinator for Omnium Circus, Bryan connects organizations with inclusive performances featuring live audio description, ASL interpretation, and sensory-friendly adaptations. He also curates interactive touch tables, ensuring that the magic of the circus is accessible to all.
