Looking for an actress for a short film, directed by University of Columbia School of the Arts student Alicja Jankowska, about Daria, a wheelchair user who spends most of her time in bed and has developed this really intimate relationship with New York through sound. She knows the street like a person. When roadworks reroute everything, she thinks the city is moving on without her.
Because this lived experience is really at the centre of the film, it feels important to work with a wheelchair user rather than asking a non-disabled actor to imitate that experience. We’d also really love for whoever plays Daria to be able to bring their own perspective to the character and help us make the details feel truthful rather than assumed or contrived.
The idea is based on the director's cousin's experience, who is a wheelchair user and tells her sense of hearing feels heightened and that she hears absolutely everything.
Non-union, Unpaid role.
We'd really appreciate it if you could share this message to people who'd be interested in acting! No prior experience needed.
